Difficulty is an editorial estimate of technical and operational complexity, not a score.

The startup idea
Jerry posted Capturra on October 28. Good recorders want a subscription. Free ones give a shaky cursor and no zoom. He built it with Rust and Tauri: auto-zoom, a smooth cursor, free and open source. The repository is jerrybarry/capturra. The license is MIT. It is a macOS recorder, 13 or later, for demos and tutorials. It records the screen without the cursor, remembers the mouse and keyboard timing, and the editor redraws a smoothed cursor with the real system shapes, then zooms to clicks and to the focused text field. Export is MP4 or GIF. Nothing is baked in, so the zoom can move after the take. macOS asks for Screen Recording, Accessibility, and Input Monitoring. The readme says it is early, and that it works end to end on macOS 13 or later. Some features are verified only by unit tests and short runs. Pre-built DMGs cover Apple silicon and Intel. The post does not say the pointer in the film is drawn afterwards, or that three permissions are required. This page did not record a demo.
The opportunity is the polish that comes from the timing log, not from a subscription. A smaller product is one short take, a label that the cursor is a redraw, and the early line on the download. A recorder that claims every feature has survived an hour-long take is ahead of the status note.
Do not say it runs on Windows. Do not hide the permissions.
The problem
A raw recording has a shaky pointer and no zoom, and the paid tools start at a subscription.
Who would pay for this?
- Primary
- A Mac developer who records product demos and does not want a subscription.
- Secondary
- Someone who will grant Screen Recording, Accessibility, and Input Monitoring.
- Early adopter
- One window, one export, the redraw explained.
How could it make money?
Possible models. Nothing here is a claim about what Capturra charges.
- No price. MIT.
- The post says free.
- No subscription is named.
What would the MVP look like?
- A recording with the cursor off.
- A redrawn cursor and one zoom.
- MP4 export.
- The early status, and the three permissions.
How to validate the idea
- Ask five people whether the pointer in the file is the one macOS drew during the take.
- If they say yes, the redraw was hidden.
- Do not treat a unit test as an hour of recording.
How to differentiate
- The cursor is data, then a drawing.
- Zooms can move after the take.
- Its own windows stay out of the video.
- Do not become a meeting recorder.
Original product launch
This launch is inspiration and evidence that someone shipped, not a partnership. The idea above is our reading of the broader opportunity. Capturra did not write it.

Product that inspired this idea
Jerry's post says good recorders want a subscription, and free ones leave a shaky cursor and no zoom. He built Capturra in Rust and Tauri: auto-zoom, a smooth cursor, free and open source. The readme says MIT, and macOS 13 or later. It records the screen with the cursor off, logs mouse and keyboard timing, then redraws a smoothed cursor and zooms in the editor. Export is MP4 or GIF. macOS asks for Screen Recording, Accessibility, and Input Monitoring. The status line says it is early. Some features are checked by unit tests and short runs. The post does not say the cursor in the video is a redraw, or name the three permissions. This page did not record a screen.
