Difficulty is an editorial estimate of technical and operational complexity, not a score.

The startup idea
Virgile Rietsch's post introduces BlitzClean as a free, open-source RAM monitor and disk cleaner for Mac. He says he built it because storage kept running out, he never knew what was using RAM, and Memory Clean 2 stopped working for him on the macOS 27 beta. The app puts CPU, RAM, and free disk in the menu bar, ranks apps and AI agents such as Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor by RAM so you can pause or quit them, finds what fills the disk, and cleans caches, node_modules, simulators, Docker, and old worktrees only after you review them. He says it is MIT and runs locally. The project page says macOS 14 or later, no account, and no telemetry. The film shows a 5.3 MB zip for version 1.2.0. That is a release file, not a user count.
The opportunity is the list, not a cleaner that deletes on its own. Developers running several agents lose track of which session is still holding memory, and they do not trust a tool that removes files they have not seen. A menu bar that names the process, and a cleanup that waits, is a product a person can ship without becoming a security company. It is a developer utility. Ranking Claude Code does not make it an AI product, so it stays off the AI ideas page.
Do not claim it is safer than every other cleaner. Claim only what you will refuse to delete.
The problem
A developer leaves agent sessions running, the disk fills with caches and old worktrees, and the cleaner they used to trust stopped working.
Who would pay for this?
- Primary
- A Mac developer running more than one coding agent.
- Secondary
- Someone whose disk filled up with caches, simulators, and old worktrees.
- Early adopter
- You, on the machine you actually work on.
How could it make money?
Possible models. Nothing here is a claim about what BlitzReels charges.
- The post says it is free and MIT. A new product can stay free. Do not invent a price the launch does not have.
- A signed auto-update or another operating system are optional ways to charge later. They are not in the post.
- If the first version deletes the wrong folder, no price saves it.
What would the MVP look like?
- Menu-bar CPU, RAM, and free disk.
- A ranking of processes, including the coding agents you run.
- Pause or quit from that list.
- A cleanup list that does nothing until you approve each item.
- Local only.
How to validate the idea
- Use it for a week. Write down which processes you quit, and which proposed deletions you refused.
- If you approve everything, the review step is theater. If you refuse the useful ones, the scanner is wrong.
- Ask three developers which agent session they forgot was open. If they already know, they may not need you.
How to differentiate
- Name the agent process. A generic activity monitor already exists.
- Review before delete. Personal files are not touched until a person says so.
- Mac only, until that version is dull.
- Stay a utility. Do not pitch it as an AI company.
Why this could be interesting now
Coding agents sit in the background for a long time, and a developer cannot see them from the menu bar they already glance at. The BlitzClean post is one public version of that list, with a cleaner that waits.
Original product launch
This launch is inspiration and evidence that someone shipped, not a partnership. The idea above is our reading of the broader opportunity. BlitzReels did not write it.

Product that inspired this idea
A free MIT menu-bar app for CPU, RAM, and disk on a Mac. It ranks apps and coding agents by memory, and the post says cleanup waits until you review it.
