The startup idea
Bahadır posted AI Limit Tracker on October 19. Claude, Codex, and Cursor limits in the Mac menu bar. He built it over a weekend. A later reply says a click shows every limit, it guesses when you will run out, it notifies at 75% and 90%, it can hold a work account and a personal one, Control-Option-L opens it, and a card shows the last 13 weeks. The last reply says it is free and works only on Mac. The repository is bahadirnuroglu/ai_limit_tracker. The readme says MIT, macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon and Intel, English and Turkish. You sign in once in your own browser. Cursor is read from the Cursor app. Tokens stay on the Mac. There is no server of his in between, but the app talks to Anthropic, OpenAI, Cursor, and GitHub for updates. It reads undocumented endpoints, so it can break when they change. The app is not notarized. Not affiliated with Anthropic, OpenAI, or Anysphere. The post does not say undocumented, and it does not mention the update check. This page did not install it.
The opportunity is one menu for three meters that already exist. A smaller product is one tool, the 75% ping, and a blank state when the endpoint moves. The pace guess is his, not a promise from the companies.
Do not say the companies support this. The readme says they do not. Do not hide the update call to GitHub.
The problem
The session dies at the limit, and the number was on three different sites.
Who would pay for this?
- Primary
- Someone on a Mac who already pays for more than one of Claude, Codex, and Cursor.
- Secondary
- A person with a work account and a personal one who will allow an unnotarized app.
- Early adopter
- One tool, the undocumented line, and the 75% notification.
How could it make money?
Possible models. Nothing here is a claim about what AI Limit Tracker charges.
- No price. MIT.
- The limits belong to subscriptions the user already pays.
- The post's last reply says free.
What would the MVP look like?
- One menu bar for one tool.
- The 75% and 90% pings.
- The line that the endpoint can break.
- A note that GitHub is checked for updates.
How to validate the idea
- Ask five people whether the number matches the site they already check.
- If it is blank after a vendor change, the readme already warned them.
- Do not add a tool the readme has not named.
How to differentiate
- Three tools, one menu.
- More than one account.
- The tokens stay in a local file.
- Do not become a billing product.
Original product launch
This launch is inspiration and evidence that someone shipped, not a partnership. The idea above is our reading of the broader opportunity. AI Limit Tracker did not write it.
