The startup idea
Shrey posted RowTabs on October 18. A free, open-source, offline Airtable alternative. Editable Notion-style tables, 100 ready-made templates, an AI assistant, and everything stays in the browser. He says he built it with Claude from one prompt, reusing OpenNote as the shell. The repository is shreyvijayvargiya/rowtabs. The readme says MIT. There is no backend. Tables sit in IndexedDB. The limits printed there are 200 tables per browser, 2,000 rows per table, 40 columns, 2 MB for one file in a cell, about 20 MB for one table, and a 15 MB import. The assistant is optional and wants an OpenRouter key pasted into the panel. The readme says that key stays in the browser. The model request does not. The same readme mentions MCP. The post does not. This page did not create a table.
The opportunity is the table a person can still open with the network off. A smaller product is one template, the caps on the screen, and a clear line that the assistant is a paid call. The post says offline. The tables are. The assistant is not.
Do not sell the assistant as local. The readme sends it to OpenRouter. Do not hide the 2,000-row cap.
The problem
The working table is in someone else's cloud, and the export is the only copy you own.
Who would pay for this?
- Primary
- Someone who keeps a working list in Airtable and wants a copy they can open offline.
- Secondary
- A person who will paste a model key and still expect Keep and Undo.
- Early adopter
- One table under the row cap, with the key line visible.
How could it make money?
Possible models. Nothing here is a claim about what RowTabs charges.
- No price on the app. MIT.
- The assistant spends an OpenRouter key the user brings.
- The post does not name a hosted plan.
What would the MVP look like?
- One editable table in IndexedDB.
- The caps, including 2,000 rows.
- A template from the set of 100.
- The line that the assistant leaves the browser.
How to validate the idea
- Ask five people to edit a table with the wifi off.
- If they needed the assistant to finish, it was not the offline product.
- Do not raise the row cap until someone hits it.
How to differentiate
- The file is the browser database, not an account.
- Delete asks first, and a change can be undone.
- The caps are printed.
- Do not become another hosted base with a chat box.
Original product launch
This launch is inspiration and evidence that someone shipped, not a partnership. The idea above is our reading of the broader opportunity. RowTabs did not write it.

Product that inspired this idea
Shrey's post says RowTabs is a free, open-source, offline Airtable alternative. Editable Notion-style tables, 100 ready-made templates, an AI assistant, and everything stays in the browser. He built it with Claude from one prompt, on the shell of his notes app. The readme says MIT, tables in IndexedDB, and no backend. The caps are 200 tables, 2,000 rows, 40 columns, 2 MB in a cell, about 20 MB a table, and a 15 MB import. The assistant needs an OpenRouter key, and the readme says that key stays in the browser. The call to the model does not. The readme also says MCP. The post does not mention the key, the caps, or MCP. This page did not open a table.
