Difficulty is an editorial estimate of technical and operational complexity, not a score.

The startup idea

Evgeny posted a demo of YuBen on October 18 and called it a free, open-source YouTube outlier research tool. The repository is shkuratovdesigner/yuben-app. The readme says it is local-first and MIT. It finds videos that get more views than the channel's subscriber count predicts, and the metric is views divided by subscribers. It drops a video with fewer than 1.5 likes per 1,000 views. Region prefers the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand from the channel's own country field, and it does not filter the rest out. Install wants Python 3.10 or newer and Node 20.19+ or 22.12+. A real search wants a YouTube API key and a model key, kept in the OS keychain or a gitignored file. The readme says a run is about 1.4k of the 10,000 daily free quota. Without keys, the interface runs on bundled fixtures. The post does not mention the keys or the fixture mode. This page did not start a search.

The opportunity is a ranked list a creator can trust because the numbers did not come from the model. The readme says the model writes the narrative and the backend rechecks every video id. A smaller product is one niche, the quota on screen, and a label when the list is still the sample.

Do not call a fixture run research. Do not hide the YouTube key.

The problem

A viral video and a big channel look the same in a list of views.

Who would pay for this?

Primary
A creator who already studies titles and wants the videos that outperformed the channel.
Secondary
Someone who will bring a YouTube key and a model key.
Early adopter
One niche, the quota line, and the fixture label.

How could it make money?

Possible models. Nothing here is a claim about what YuBen charges.

  • No price. MIT.
  • The YouTube quota and the model key are the user's.
  • The post does not name a hosted plan.

What would the MVP look like?

  1. One outlier list ranked by views over subscribers.
  2. The 1.5 likes filter.
  3. The quota estimate.
  4. A fixture mode that says it is not their niche.

How to validate the idea

  • Ask five creators to name a video the list missed.
  • If the miss is a fixture, they never left the sample.
  • Do not add a hosted search until someone pays for the keys.

How to differentiate

  • The score is views over subscribers, not raw views.
  • The model does not invent the video id.
  • It runs on the machine.
  • Do not become a growth dashboard with a login.

Original product launch

This launch is inspiration and evidence that someone shipped, not a partnership. The idea above is our reading of the broader opportunity. YuBen did not write it.

Product that inspired this idea

Evgeny's post calls YuBen a free, open-source YouTube outlier research tool, and links the repository. The readme says it is local-first and MIT. It ranks videos by views divided by subscribers, and drops one under 1.5 likes per 1,000 views. Region is a preference for the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand, not a filter. A real run wants Python 3.10 or newer, Node 20.19+ or 22.12+, a YouTube API key, and a model key. The readme says one search is about 1.4k of the 10k daily free quota. A mock mode runs on bundled fixtures with no keys. The post does not say the search is empty until those keys exist. This page did not call the API.
