One shelf for the files and the memory
Keep the files and the agent memory in one place a second tool can open, with encryption on by default.

Difficulty is an editorial estimate of technical and operational complexity, not a score.

The startup idea
Walrus's post introduces Walrus Console as one place to store, organize, and connect the data AI apps and agents use, without managing the infrastructure. It lists a managed platform for files and agent context, a native MCP and a developer API, and private and encrypted by default. Their blog the same day says Console is live, that encryption and renewals are handled there, and that you reach the data with an API key or MCP, including from Claude Code and Cursor. The product page says start for free, up to 5 GB, with Google or Apple sign-in, encryption on every upload, and a view of agent memory next to the files. The blog also says every byte is independently verifiable. That is their storage claim. This page did not create an account.
The opportunity is the second tool opening the same memory. An agent that only remembers on one laptop is stuck when the person opens a different harness. A folder plus a memory view, with private as the default, is a smaller product than a new chain. If the file can leave, the screen should say where it went. Encrypted by default is the line. A toggle the person has to find is not the same.
Do not invent a token price, a network fee, or a customer count. The free tier they published is 5 GB. Do not turn the verifiable-byte sentence into a promise you did not test.
The problem
The memory that makes an agent useful is stuck on one laptop, next to files that live in a different account.
Who would pay for this?
- Primary
- A developer whose agent already stores context, and who uses more than one tool.
- Secondary
- A team that will not leave that context on a single laptop.
- Early adopter
- One folder, one agent, one second tool that should see the same files.
How could it make money?
Possible models. Nothing here is a claim about what Walrus charges.
- The product page says up to 5 GB free. Do not invent the price after that.
- Charge for the storage and the key, not for a cut of the model bill.
- Sign-in with Google or Apple is what they published. A version with no account is a different product.
What would the MVP look like?
- A folder.
- Encryption on by default.
- One API key or one MCP connection.
- A list of what the agent stored.
- A way to see the file from a second tool.
How to validate the idea
- Put one real project folder there. Open it from the second tool you actually use.
- If you never switch tools, you do not have this problem.
- Turn encryption off in a test and see if the product still lets you, quietly. If it does, the default is a label.
How to differentiate
- Files and memory on one shelf.
- Private unless they change it.
- One key, two tools.
- Do not lead with a token.
Why this could be interesting now
Agents are storing context, and that context is stuck on one machine. Walrus Console is one public attempt to put the files and the memory where a second tool can reach them, with encryption as the default.
Original product launch
This launch is inspiration and evidence that someone shipped, not a partnership. The idea above is our reading of the broader opportunity. Walrus did not write it.

Product that inspired this idea
A managed place to store files and agent context, then reach them from an API or MCP. The post says it is private and encrypted by default. The product page says it is live, with up to 5 GB free.
