Search the papers from the agent
A curated paper index the coding agent can search, with a line that says the reply is an excerpt, not the paper.

Difficulty is an editorial estimate of technical and operational complexity, not a score.
Startup idea analysis by Startup Ideas. Last reviewed Oct 7, 2026. How we read a launch.
The startup idea
Elvis, who builds DAIR.AI, posted an MCP so Codex, Claude, or a Grok bot can find and explore the papers he features. He says the index is the papers he has posted on X over the last couple of years, curated, not a firehose. The start link on the film's YouTube page is academy.dair.ai/papers, and the setup line there is npx @dair-ai/mcp setup. The academy page says the list is curated weekly since April 2023, and it shows 2,577 papers and 182 weekly issues. Those are the page's counts. The film is about ten minutes. In it he says there are twelve tools. This page did not count them. A result on the film says coverage is limited to the returned fields and excerpts, and that unreturned content has not been assessed. A reply asks whether the tool returns the full paper or an abstract. The film's own line is the excerpt. He also says benchmarks ship with this in the next couple of weeks. This page did not run the command.
The opportunity is the list a person already trusts, inside the agent that is about to implement something. A search box returns every PDF. A weekly editor returns the ones they would actually read. A smaller version is one topic, links, and a sentence that the tool did not hand back the paper. If the agent writes a literature review from excerpts and does not say so, the first wrong citation ends the product.
Do not quote the scores inside the film's paper summaries as DAIR's results. They are the papers. Do not say the MCP is free. The post does not name a price. Do not say it returns the PDF. The film says excerpts.
The problem
The good papers are a weekly list in someone else's head. The agent starts from search, or from memory.
Who would pay for this?
- Primary
- Someone who already follows DAIR's weekly papers and works in a coding agent.
- Secondary
- A person who will implement one idea from a paper, and needs the link, not a remix.
- Early adopter
- You, on the last issue you actually opened.
How could it make money?
Possible models. Nothing here is a claim about what DAIR.AI charges.
- The post names no price for the MCP. Do not invent one.
- The academy has its own pricing page for courses. That is not automatically the price of the tool. This page did not treat them as the same product.
- A curated list can be free, and the editor's time is the cost. Say who pays for the week if you copy the shape.
What would the MVP look like?
- One topic.
- A short list.
- A link to the paper.
- A line that the tool returned excerpts, not the file.
- The week the list was last updated.
How to validate the idea
- Ask the agent for a paper you already read. See if the excerpt matches, and if the link is real.
- If it invents a result that is not in the excerpt, the missing sentence is the product.
- Ignore the film's benchmark promise until those benchmarks are posted.
How to differentiate
- A person picks the week. The agent does not crawl the whole of arXiv.
- Excerpts, labeled.
- One harness they already run. The page names Claude Code and Codex. The post adds a Grok bot.
- Do not sell a literature review that hides what it did not read.
Why this could be interesting now
The post puts a hand-picked paper index on the agent the same day the film shows a search that stops at excerpts. The opening is one topic, the link, and that sentence.
Original product launch
This launch is inspiration and evidence that someone shipped, not a partnership. The idea above is our reading of the broader opportunity. DAIR.AI did not write it.

Product that inspired this idea
Elvis, who builds DAIR.AI, says the MCP lets Codex, Claude, or a Grok bot search the papers he has featured. The academy page says the set is curated weekly. The film says the reply is excerpts, not the whole paper.
