The undo that is not the chat
A Rust snapshot before an agent edits, including files git does not track, that does not bring the chat back.

Difficulty is an editorial estimate of technical and operational complexity, not a score.

The startup idea
Ayush posted unwreck on October 20. An agent can run rm on files git does not track. unwreck is Ctrl+Z for that. Undo, and the files are back. Open source, one Rust binary. The repository is ayushdoesdev/unwreck. The readme says hooks snapshot the working tree before Claude, Codex, or Gemini run, including shell commands and edits to untracked files. You can also wrap another command with unwreck run. Snapshots are stored locally, outside the repository. It does not write inside .git. It does not restore chat history. A file over 16 MiB is recorded as too large and shows up as MISSING on restore. It does not replace version control. Garbage collection keeps the last 30 days. Prebuilt binaries exist for Linux musl, macOS, and Windows. A source install wants Rust 1.90 or newer. The demo simulates an agent session while running the real hooks. The post says everything is back. A large file and the chat are not. This page did not restore a tree.
The opportunity is the file that was never committed. A smaller product is one hook, one untracked file, and a MISSING line for anything over 16 MiB. Git is still the history. This is the gap before the commit.
Do not say it rewinds the conversation. The readme says to use the agent's own resume for that. Do not say it writes into .git.
The problem
The agent deleted a file that was never committed, and git status is empty.
Who would pay for this?
- Primary
- A developer who lets Claude, Codex, or Gemini edit a repo that also has untracked files.
- Secondary
- Someone who will install a hook and still commit.
- Early adopter
- One untracked file, one restore, and the 16 MiB line.
How could it make money?
Possible models. Nothing here is a claim about what unwreck charges.
- No price. MIT or Apache-2.0.
- The agent is one the user already runs.
- The post does not name a seat.
What would the MVP look like?
- A snapshot before one agent command.
- A restore of an untracked file.
- MISSING for a file over 16 MiB.
- The line that the chat is not restored.
How to validate the idea
- Ask five people to delete an untracked file through the agent and undo it.
- If the file was over 16 MiB, the restore should say MISSING.
- Do not count a restored chat as this product.
How to differentiate
- It runs before the tool, not after a git diff.
- Untracked files are in the snapshot.
- The chat is out of scope.
- Do not become another git host.
Original product launch
This launch is inspiration and evidence that someone shipped, not a partnership. The idea above is our reading of the broader opportunity. unwreck did not write it.

Product that inspired this idea
Ayush's post says an agent can delete files git does not track, so he built unwreck. Undo, and the files are back. Open source, one Rust binary. The readme says hooks snapshot the working tree before Claude, Codex, or Gemini run, including untracked files. Snapshots sit outside the repository. It does not write inside .git. It does not restore chat history. A file over 16 MiB is recorded as too large and comes back as MISSING. It does not replace version control. Garbage collection drops snapshots older than 30 days. Prebuilt binaries cover Linux musl, macOS, and Windows. The post says everything is back. The readme does not. This page did not run a restore.
