unwreck, not the chat

Ayush's post says an agent can delete files git does not track, so he built unwreck. Undo, and the files are back. Open source, one Rust binary. The readme says hooks snapshot the working tree before Claude, Codex, or Gemini run, including untracked files. Snapshots sit outside the repository. It does not write inside .git. It does not restore chat history. A file over 16 MiB is recorded as too large and comes back as MISSING. It does not replace version control. Garbage collection drops snapshots older than 30 days. Prebuilt binaries cover Linux musl, macOS, and Windows. The post says everything is back. The readme does not. This page did not run a restore.
