The startup idea
Hasan Tutac posted RevealRoll on October 8. A disposable camera that lives in a QR code. Name the roll, set a reveal time, share one code. Guests shoot from the browser. No app, no account. Nobody sees a photo until the reveal. The post says free for 5 guests. The page says free is $0 per event, up to 5 guests, 10 shots each. Micro is $1.99, up to 10 guests, 20 shots each. Small is $4.99, up to 25 guests, 20 shots each. The page says larger plans are not currently available. The FAQ says guests open the camera in the browser, and photos stay hidden until the reveal time you chose. This page did not start a roll.
The opportunity is the wait, and the free cap the post left half-said. Five guests is on the post. Ten shots each is only on the page. A smaller product is one QR, photos that stay hidden, and those three prices on the same screen.
Do not say free covers the table. Five guests and ten shots is the free roll. Do not say a guest needs an account. The FAQ says no.
The problem
The group chat shows every photo as it is taken. The roll was supposed to wait.
Who would pay for this?
- Primary
- A person who wants the photos from a dinner to arrive together, not one by one in the chat.
- Secondary
- A host who will pay $1.99 when the sixth guest shows up.
- Early adopter
- One roll, five guests, a reveal time tonight.
How could it make money?
Possible models. Nothing here is a claim about what RevealRoll charges.
- Free is $0, 5 guests, 10 shots each.
- Micro is $1.99, 10 guests, 20 shots. Small is $4.99, 25 guests, 20 shots.
- Larger plans are not currently available, on the page.
What would the MVP look like?
- One roll and one QR.
- A guest camera in the browser, no account.
- Photos hidden until the time you set.
- The 5-guest and 10-shot cap written next to $1.99 and $4.99.
How to validate the idea
- Ask five hosts if they will share one QR and wait until the reveal to look.
- If they only want the live gallery, the wait was not the product.
- Do not add a second event size until one roll is opened by someone who was not the host.
How to differentiate
- The photo stays hidden.
- The guest does not install an app.
- Free is five people, not unlimited.
- Do not become a photo host that shows the shot as it is taken.
Why this could be interesting now
The post and the pricing page name the same five guests, and the page adds the shot cap and the two paid sizes. The opening is one roll a table can reject.
Original product launch
This launch is inspiration and evidence that someone shipped, not a partnership. The idea above is our reading of the broader opportunity. RevealRoll did not write it.
