The startup idea
A post on October 21 says the iPhone agent was rebuilt and is open source. It sits under an earlier film that claimed an agent could control the phone with no computer connected. The repository is jxherc/phoness. The readme calls it a remake of that demo. MIT. It needs a sideload, and either an Anthropic API key or a Claude subscription. The subscription path signs in with Claude Code's OAuth client and tells the API it is Claude Code, because that is how subscription requests go through. The readme says Anthropic limits those logins to its own apps, so this goes against that, and the account can be limited or banned. Use an API key if the account matters. It has been tried on one phone, an iPhone 16 Pro on iOS 27.0.1. After a one-time setup it is meant to need no computer. The agent looks at the screen, taps, types, and swipes. The post does not mention the ban or the sideload. This page did not install it.
The opportunity is a task that finishes on the phone the person already holds. A smaller product is one app, one tap, an API key, and the ban warning before the subscription button. The earlier film's "no computer at any point" is not what this readme says. Setup still exists.
Do not tell someone to sign in with a Claude subscription. The readme says that can ban the account. Do not say it was tested on every iPhone.
The problem
The task is on the phone, and the agent is still on a computer.
Who would pay for this?
- Primary
- Someone who wants a repeated phone task done without holding the screen.
- Secondary
- A person who will sideload and will spend an API key rather than a subscription login.
- Early adopter
- One phone model, one app, and the warning.
How could it make money?
Possible models. Nothing here is a claim about what phoness charges.
- No price. MIT.
- The model is an Anthropic API key, or a subscription login the readme warns against.
- The post does not name a plan.
What would the MVP look like?
- A sideload on one named phone.
- One look and one tap.
- An API key path.
- The ban warning in the install steps.
How to validate the idea
- Ask five people to finish one task on a phone that is not the tested 16 Pro.
- If it only works on that one OS build, say so.
- Do not count a banned login as a successful setup.
How to differentiate
- It runs on the phone after setup.
- The readme names the policy it breaks.
- An API key is the safe path.
- Do not pretend it is an Apple feature.
Original product launch
This launch is inspiration and evidence that someone shipped, not a partnership. The idea above is our reading of the broader opportunity. phoness did not write it.

Product that inspired this idea
The post says the iPhone agent was rebuilt and is open source now. It quotes an earlier film where an agent taps the phone with no computer in the loop. The readme says phoness is a remake of that demo. MIT. It needs a sideload, and either an Anthropic API key or a Claude subscription. The subscription path signs in with Claude Code's own OAuth client and tells the API it is Claude Code. The readme says that can limit or ban the account, and that Anthropic limits subscription logins to its own apps. Use an API key if the account matters. It has been tried on one iPhone, a 16 Pro on iOS 27.0.1. After a one-time setup it is meant to need no computer. The post does not mention the ban, or the sideload. This page did not install it.
