The startup idea
Masahiko posted on October 29 that years of talking about Ionic and Capacitor limits may have been wrong. Native ads scroll with web content. Web modals sit over native UI. He built an engine, for Capacitor and Cordova, at github.com/webview-native-ui/engine. The license is MIT. Commercial use is allowed. The engine's license does not change the license of an app or plugin that depends on it. The readme says it is a library for plugin developers, on iOS and Android. Ionic and Angular are optional. It projects native appearance into the web layer. It does not reorder the actual native view inside the DOM. A native view sitting above a WebView does not automatically take part in DOM layout, clicks, or live video. When a suitable image is unavailable, the integration uses its configured web fallback. Capture eligibility and platform rendering limits still apply, including differences in Liquid Glass highlights. The demo file in the repo is 23 seconds, recorded on the iOS Simulator. The post shows the scroll and the modal. It does not say the native view stays out of the DOM, or that the film is a simulator. This page did not ship a plugin.
The opportunity is one screen where a native control and a web layout move together, for people who already ship Capacitor plugins. A smaller product is one control, the projection labeled as a projection, and the fallback when the image is missing. An engine that inserts the real native view into the DOM is not this readme.
Do not say the native view is a DOM node. Do not skip the simulator note.
The problem
A web modal and a native ad still live in two layers that do not scroll as one.
Who would pay for this?
- Primary
- A Capacitor or Cordova plugin developer.
- Secondary
- Someone who will accept a web fallback when the native image is missing.
- Early adopter
- One native control, one web modal, the DOM limit written down.
How could it make money?
Possible models. Nothing here is a claim about what WebView Native UI charges.
- No price. MIT.
- Apps that depend on it keep their own licenses.
- The post does not name a seat.
What would the MVP look like?
- One plugin integration.
- A native control that scrolls with web content as a projection.
- A web fallback.
- The simulator demo labeled.
How to validate the idea
- Ask five plugin authors whether a click on the native view is a DOM click.
- If they say yes, the projection was sold as the real view.
- Do not promise live video inside the native layer.
How to differentiate
- It is for plugins, not a new app framework.
- The native view stays native.
- Limits are written before you pick a component.
- Do not become the WebView.
Original product launch
This launch is inspiration and evidence that someone shipped, not a partnership. The idea above is our reading of the broader opportunity. WebView Native UI did not write it.

Product that inspired this idea
Masahiko's post says native ads scroll with web content, and web modals sit over native UI. He built an engine for Capacitor and Cordova. The repository is webview-native-ui/engine. The license is MIT. The readme says it is a library for plugin developers, on iOS and Android. It projects native appearance into the web layer. It does not reorder the actual native view inside the DOM. A native view above a WebView does not automatically join DOM layout, clicks, or live video. If a suitable image is missing, the integration uses its web fallback. Platform limits still apply, including Liquid Glass. The 23-second demo in the repo was recorded on the iOS Simulator. The post does not say the scroll is a projection, or that the film is a simulator. This page did not install a plugin.
