Keep the harness, move the agent off the laptop
Run the coding agent someone already pays for in a sandbox that stays up when the laptop closes.

Difficulty is an editorial estimate of technical and operational complexity, not a score.
Startup idea analysis by Startup Ideas. Last reviewed Oct 7, 2026. How we read a launch.
The startup idea
David Ondrej's post introduces Cloudroom as an app for heavy agent use. He says it runs cloud agents with any harness, the core is Rust and open source, and you keep your existing subscriptions. The harnesses he names are Codex, Claude Code, Pi, Cursor, and OpenCode. He also says the film itself was made in Cloudroom. Their site adds that each cloud agent gets its own sandbox, agents call the model provider directly, local agents need no account, and cloud hosting is invite-only. The GitHub readme says you can move a running thread between the Mac and the cloud. Those details are theirs. This page did not try the app.
The opportunity is the move, not a new coding agent. People already have a harness and a subscription. What they do not have is a machine that stays on, with the same chat, when the laptop sleeps. A founder can sell that for one harness: start here, continue there, and the history is still yours. Self-hosting is the difference from a closed cloud agent. If the traces only live on someone else's server, you rebuilt the lock-in the post is arguing against.
Do not claim it replaces Cursor, Claude Code, and Codex. The post says it runs them. A smaller company picks one harness and one kind of job that should not depend on an open laptop.
The problem
Cloud agent products often want you to switch harness, model, and history at the same time.
Who would pay for this?
- Primary
- A developer who already runs a coding agent and wants a long job to finish while the laptop is closed.
- Secondary
- A team that will not put agent history on a vendor they cannot leave.
- Early adopter
- One person, one repo, one harness they already pay for.
How could it make money?
Possible models. Nothing here is a claim about what Cloudroom charges.
- Local use can stay free. Charge for the hosted sandbox, or for support around a self-hosted core.
- Their site says local agents need no account and cloud is invite-only. It does not publish a cloud price in the text we used. Do not invent one.
- Do not resell their model subscription. The post's point is that the agent keeps the subscription the user already has.
What would the MVP look like?
- One harness.
- One repo.
- A sandbox with a copy of that repo.
- The same thread after you move it.
- A way to shut the sandbox off.
How to validate the idea
- Take one job you would normally leave running overnight. Do it on a spare machine you control.
- If you never close the laptop, you do not have this problem.
- Ask three people which harness they would refuse to abandon. Build the move for that one.
How to differentiate
- One harness, not every agent product.
- The history can be self-hosted. Say so, and mean it.
- The model bill stays with the provider the user already pays.
- Do not become a second editor.
Why this could be interesting now
People are running several coding agents, and the laptop is a bad place for a job that lasts hours. The Cloudroom post is one public attempt to keep the harness and move the machine.
Original product launch
This launch is inspiration and evidence that someone shipped, not a partnership. The idea above is our reading of the broader opportunity. Cloudroom did not write it.

Product that inspired this idea
A desktop app for running coding agents locally or in a cloud sandbox. The post says the core is open source and the agents keep using your existing subscriptions.
