What Startup Idea Scout does

Startup Idea Scout helps you look at the webpage you are viewing and identify possible startup opportunities. The result may cover the problem being solved, possible startup opportunities, target customers, possible business models, MVP suggestions, and differentiation ideas.

Analysis starts only after you ask for it. That means clicking “Analyze This Page,” analyzing text you selected, or choosing “Find startup opportunity” from the context menu. The extension does not continuously monitor browsing activity.

Information the extension may process

When you choose to analyze a page, the extension may process information from that active page:

• the page title
• the page URL
• visible webpage text
• text you explicitly selected

Access to the active page happens because you took one of those actions. The extension does not read pages in the background.

Remote analysis

When remote analysis is used, information needed to perform the analysis, such as the page title, URL, visible text, or selected text, may be sent securely to the Startup Idea Scout analysis service. The information is used only to provide the requested startup opportunity analysis.

This policy does not describe analysis as something that stays entirely on your device.

Browsing history

Startup Idea Scout does not continuously collect or monitor browsing history. The extension only accesses the current tab when you explicitly ask it to analyze that page or selected content.

The URL of the page you asked to analyze can be part of that request. The extension does not keep a history of other pages you visit.

Local storage

Chrome local storage may be used to save extension settings, user preferences, and configuration options. That storage is there so the extension can work the way you set it. It is not used to create advertising profiles.

Personal information

Startup Idea Scout does not require users to provide a name, email address, payment information, or other direct personal identifiers to use the basic extension functionality.

Data sales and advertising

Startup Idea Scout does not sell user data.

Startup Idea Scout does not use webpage content or browsing activity for targeted advertising.

Startup Idea Scout does not create advertising profiles from browsing activity.

Data sharing

We may use service providers to operate the analysis service. Information is shared only as necessary to provide the functionality requested by the user and is not sold for advertising purposes.

Data retention

Page content is used to produce the analysis you asked for. Startup Idea Scout does not build a permanent browsing profile from those pages.

This policy does not claim that a request is never written down. If the analysis service keeps a short operational log of a request you made, that log is only for running the service. It is not a record of your browsing history, and it is not used for advertising. Settings saved in Chrome local storage stay on your device until you clear the extension’s site data in Chrome or remove the extension.

Permissions used

The extension requests these Chrome permissions:

activeTab

Used to temporarily access the webpage you explicitly choose to analyze.

scripting

Used to extract relevant content from the active page after you request analysis.

storage

Used to store extension settings and preferences.

sidePanel

Used to display the Startup Idea Scout interface beside the current webpage.

contextMenus

Used to provide the “Find startup opportunity” right-click action for selected text.

Remote code

Startup Idea Scout does not download or execute remote JavaScript or WebAssembly. Extension executable code is included in the Chrome extension package. Calling an analysis service for a result is a data request. It is not the extension running remote code.

Security

Reasonable technical measures are used to protect information sent to the analysis service, including transmission over HTTPS when remote analysis is used. No service can honestly promise that it is perfectly secure.

Children

Startup Idea Scout is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated if Startup Idea Scout’s functionality or data practices change. The latest version will always be published at https://startup-ideas.tech/startup-idea-scout-privacy.
