The startup idea
Harsha posted UPIlerify on October 20. Get paid in UPI with zero gateway fees. No Razorpay, no 2% cut, no waiting, and you know instantly. He says he built it in August. The repository is harshavarma02/upilerify. The readme says MIT, self-hosted, for independent creators selling code, a course, a plugin, or a template. The customer pays a UPI QR or app link. The bank emails a credit alert to Gmail. UPIlerify reads it over TLS IMAP, matches the amount and a 12-digit UTR, and sends an HMAC-signed webhook. Sixteen banks and apps are named, including HDFC, SBI, ICICI, PhonePe, and Google Pay. You need Node.js 20.9 or newer, a Gmail app password, a bank that emails on credits, and a host with a disk. Tiny paisa offsets separate two checkouts at once. A UTR can be used once. The readme says a large or regulated business should use a licensed gateway, and important payments should still be confirmed on the statement. The post says no waiting. The verification still waits on that email. This page did not take a payment.
The opportunity is a receipt that is the bank's own alert, not a screenshot. A smaller product is one bank, one order, and the line that the mail can be the delay. Do not sell this to a business the readme told to use a gateway.
Do not say every bank. The list is sixteen. Do not say the money skips the bank. It settles in the seller's account.
The problem
A gateway takes a cut, and a raw UPI screenshot is not a receipt you can trust.
Who would pay for this?
- Primary
- A creator in India selling a digital file to one buyer at a time.
- Secondary
- A developer who will run Node on a VPS and keep a Gmail app password.
- Early adopter
- One of the named banks, one order, and the statement check.
How could it make money?
Possible models. Nothing here is a claim about what UPIlerify charges.
- No price. MIT.
- The readme's fee claim is zero gateway fees, not zero bank rules.
- The post does not name a hosted plan.
What would the MVP look like?
- One QR for one order.
- A match on amount and UTR from the Gmail alert.
- The list of 16 banks.
- The line that a regulated business is out.
How to validate the idea
- Ask five sellers whether the webhook fired before they opened the bank app.
- If the mail was late, instant was the post, not the product.
- Do not add a bank the readme has not named.
How to differentiate
- The money lands in the seller's account, not a gateway balance.
- The webhook is signed.
- A UTR cannot be reused.
- Do not become the bank.
Original product launch
This launch is inspiration and evidence that someone shipped, not a partnership. The idea above is our reading of the broader opportunity. UPIlerify did not write it.

Product that inspired this idea
Harsha's post says UPIlerify lets you get paid in UPI with zero gateway fees. No Razorpay, no 2% cut, no waiting, and you know the moment someone pays. He says he built it in August. The readme says MIT, self-hosted, for Next.js and Node. The customer pays a UPI QR. The bank emails a credit alert to Gmail. The app reads that mail over IMAP, matches the amount and a 12-digit UTR, and sends a signed webhook. It recognizes 16 banks and apps. You need Node.js 20.9 or newer, a Gmail app password, a bank that emails on credits, and a host with a disk. The readme says a large or regulated business should use a licensed gateway, and important payments should still be checked on the statement. The post does not mention Gmail, or the 16 banks. This page did not run a checkout.
