A personal computer built around an assistant
Hardware for people who want a machine that is an assistant first, with ordering as simple as a product page.

Difficulty is an editorial estimate of technical and operational complexity, not a score.
Startup idea analysis by Startup Ideas. Last reviewed Oct 6, 2026. How we read a launch.
The startup idea
Ghost’s film is for Core, a personal AI computer, and the post points at a page where someone can order. That is further along than a concept video. It is still a hard company to imitate. A new device needs capital, a supply chain, and a reason to leave the laptop.
The opportunity worth stealing is the job, not the enclosure. People want an assistant that is the computer, not a tab. A founder without a hardware team can sell a focused machine made of software: one screen that is the assistant, files it is allowed to see, and a physical object they do not manufacture. A founder who does want hardware should copy the discipline in the launch, which is a single device and a way to order it, not a platform story.
Both readings can be a company. Only one of them should be started by a team that has never shipped a board.
The problem
Assistants live inside computers that were designed for windows, files, and a mouse.
Who would pay for this?
- Primary
- An early buyer who wants a computer arranged around an assistant.
- Secondary
- A developer who will not buy a new device but will change how the current one boots.
- Early adopter
- People already on the waitlist of a machine like this, if you can talk to them without pretending to be the company.
How could it make money?
Possible models. Nothing here is a claim about what Ghost charges.
- Hardware margin, if you are actually shipping a device. That requires capital the launch does not disclose.
- A software subscription on a machine the person already owns, if you are not.
- A deposit before you build units. If nobody leaves a deposit, you do not have this company.
- No revenue figure is available from the post. Do not invent one.
What would the MVP look like?
- If software: one desktop mode that is the assistant, with a visible list of files it can read.
- If hardware: one job the device does, a page, and a deposit. Not a second SKU.
- A way to return to a normal computer. People will not trap themselves.
How to validate the idea
- Ask people who liked the film whether they would buy a device or a mode on the computer they have. Those are different companies.
- Take deposits, or stop.
- Use the software version yourself for a month before you draw a case.
How to differentiate
- A software mode for the laptop, sold to people who will not buy new hardware.
- A device for one room, such as a studio desk, instead of a general personal computer.
- Repair and ownership as the point, if the other machines are closed.
- Do not launch a second assistant. The device, or the mode, is the product.
Why this could be interesting now
Assistants are good enough that a few teams are redesigning the computer around them, and at least one is taking orders. That does not mean a new founder should mold plastic. It means the interface of the personal computer is open to argument again.
Original product launch
This launch is inspiration and evidence that someone shipped, not a partnership. The idea above is our reading of the broader opportunity. Ghost did not write it.
