Startup idea analysis by Startup Ideas. Last reviewed Oct 6, 2026. How we read a launch.
The startup idea
Together Link is a CLI that runs open models inside coding harnesses, picks a model for the task, and tracks spend. The launch is a developer staring at a real problem: the agent works, the bill is opaque, and changing model is a chore.
The opportunity is a routing and accounting layer for people who already have a coding agent. It does not need to be the agent. It decides which model is allowed to touch which task, prints what that run cost, and lets a team set a ceiling. A company that already pays for several model providers is the buyer. A hobbyist with one key is a weak one.
Copying the CLI exactly puts you next to the company that just shipped the film. The opening is policy and cost for a team, or a router aimed at one harness the original tool does not love.
The problem
Developers want open models inside the harness they already use, but choosing a model and seeing the bill is fiddly.
Who would pay for this?
- Primary
- A small engineering team running coding agents on more than one model.
- Secondary
- A developer who wants open models inside the harness they already use.
- Early adopter
- The person who already exports a bill at the end of the month and cannot tell which task caused it.
How could it make money?
Possible models. Nothing here is a claim about what Together charges.
- A fraction of spend, or a flat fee once spend passes a threshold.
- A team plan for ceilings, model allow-lists, and a shared log.
- Usage-based is honest here because the underlying models are already metered. Do not pretend the launch published a price.
What would the MVP look like?
- One harness.
- Two models.
- A printed cost for the run.
- A ceiling that stops the run.
- A log a second person can read.
How to validate the idea
- Ask ten developers where they look when an agent run was expensive. If the answer is “I don’t,” you have a problem worth a tool.
- Add cost logging to your own agent for two weeks before you sell it.
- Offer the ceiling as a script. If people will not install a script, they will not install a product.
How to differentiate
- Be the ledger, and let other CLIs do the routing.
- Support one harness deeply instead of five on the surface.
- Sell to a company that must keep certain repos on a model that never leaves a region.
- Open-source the router and charge for the team log.
Why this could be interesting now
Coding agents made model choice a daily decision, and open models made that choice cheaper and messier. Spend is now part of the workflow, not a finance surprise.
Original product launch
This launch is inspiration and evidence that someone shipped, not a partnership. The idea above is our reading of the broader opportunity. Together did not write it.
