An agent that sits in the group chat
Put an agent in a chat that already has more than one person, with its own name, and a person still decides.

Difficulty is an editorial estimate of technical and operational complexity, not a score.
Startup idea analysis by Startup Ideas. Last reviewed Oct 7, 2026. How we read a launch.
The startup idea
Anushk's post introduces Shapes as a place to work with friends and agents. He says most agents are single-player, and Shapes is multiplayer from the start. The examples are date nights, weekend trips, birthdays, study groups, and coworking. A later post says the agents have their own identities and a place in the chat, and that a shape planning a surprise will not ask before sharing someone's schedule or what they like. That last line is their design. It is also the part a founder should not copy blindly.
The opportunity is one group job, not a second social network. Friends already have a chat. The missing piece is an agent that can look something up, draft a plan, and stop before it spends money or invites someone. The film shows a group asking about flights and the agent answering in the thread. Treat the fares on screen as a demo, not a data product.
The careful version asks before it shares a person's calendar, likes, or location, even if the post says a surprise is a reason not to. A surprise is a feature. A leak is the company-ending bug.
The problem
Most agents are built for one user. Plans that need a group still get copied out of the chat by hand.
Who would pay for this?
- Primary
- A small group that already plans something recurring in a chat.
- Secondary
- The person who currently copies the plan into a doc no one opens.
- Early adopter
- One group chat you are already in, and one kind of plan.
How could it make money?
Possible models. Nothing here is a claim about what Shapes charges.
- A subscription for the group, once the agent is part of how they plan.
- The launch does not publish a price. Do not invent one.
- Do not take a cut of the flights, gifts, or bookings in the first version. You do not have that trust yet.
What would the MVP look like?
- One group.
- One agent with its own name in the thread.
- One job, such as a shortlist, not a booking.
- A message everyone can see.
- Nothing is shared from a person's private data unless they allowed that field.
How to validate the idea
- Run it in one real group for two weeks. Count how many plans the agent touched, and how many people corrected it.
- Ask each person what the agent is not allowed to say about them. If that list is empty, they have not thought about it. If they will not use it once they see the list, the product is the privacy, not the chat.
- If the group keeps planning in the old thread, you added a bot they mute.
How to differentiate
- One kind of plan. Not every hangout, class, and side project.
- The agent has a name, and a person can remove it.
- Private facts are opt-in. A surprise is not a reason to skip the ask.
- Do not build another messenger. Sit in the chat they already have, if they will let you.
Why this could be interesting now
Group chats are where plans already happen, and single-player agents make someone the secretary. The Shapes post is a public bet that the agent should be in the thread. The company is whatever that agent is allowed to know.
Original product launch
This launch is inspiration and evidence that someone shipped, not a partnership. The idea above is our reading of the broader opportunity. Shapes did not write it.

Product that inspired this idea
A group chat where the agent has its own place in the thread. The post says the agents are for plans that need other people, not a single-player assistant.
